Tahiti Seymour

Tahiti Seymour is an 18-year-old student, poet, writer, environmental activist and film maker who uses creative expression to bring attention to critical issues and drive change in her home country of Grand Cayman in the Cayman Islands.

From the age of 8, Tahiti began familiarizing herself with sophisticated film editing software. Filmmaking would become her primary mode of activism, allowing her to voice her opinions on local, regional and global issues, primarily through the lens of the environment, incorporating poetry, storytelling, and the interpretative-abstract film style.

During the past two years Tahiti has collaborated with a number of not-for-profits in a speaking capacity as well as through her creative advocacy work. Among them: The Youth Ambassadors Programme, Protect Our Future, The Mangrove Rangers and Plastic Free Cayman. Tahiti also produced a short film on COVID-19 and mental health on behalf of the Cayman Islands Government, which was regularly aired on the local television channel during 2020 and was featured in a Forbes article on COVID-19.

While completing high school studies in Canada, Tahiti collaborated with the team at Force of Nature, a youth-founded environmental advocacy organization, speaking on topics such as “Veganism in the modern world” and “A Zero-Waste Lifestyle.”

Tahiti believes that the arts are an excellent platform for youth activism; in this modern age of media, video in particular has the power to successfully promote important messages to global audiences. She is currently producing a short film on food systems issues in the Cayman Islands.

Tahiti recently graduated high school and will begin pursuing an Undergraduate degree in Political Science in the United Kingdom in the Fall.
